Dermatologist Dr. Heather Higgins
Board-certified medical dermatologist Dr. Heather Higgins is originally from Michigan and earned her undergraduate degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, where she was a Presidential Scholar. She went on to earn her medical degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing. Dr. Higgins then completed two years of a General Surgery residency at Michigan State University Beaumont Hospitals, during which time she was elected Chief Intern. She then began her Dermatology residency at Michigan State University Beaumont Hospitals where she served as Chief Resident in her final year.
After residency, Dr. Higgins was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Surgical Subspecialties at Michigan State University. She has continued to publish numerous papers and studies, as well as serve as Associate Editor of Journal of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.
Before moving to Asheville in 2015, Dr. Higgins worked in Michigan at Somerset Skin Centre, a preeminent regional center providing tertiary care for dermatology patients requiring advanced clinical and surgical attention. Dr. Higgins previously worked at another practice in town before establishing her own practice in 2020.
In her free time, Dr. Higgins enjoys spending time with her husband Jason and puppy Josey, as well as photography, hiking, quilting, and following the Detroit Tigers.
